FROM THE DESK OF THE MAYOR
Dear Citizens of Belleview,
We certainly had an eventful weekend in our lovely little City! My festivities began on Friday night when I attended the OxFam Banquet at Lake Weir High School. This was an event put on by the students of the IB program, and they did an outstanding job! Their mission was to raise awareness of world hunger, and they had a unique and informative way of doing so. Aside from a moving video and fact filled presentation, they displayed hands on in the form of a simple meal exactly what so many people throughout the world experience on a day to day basis. Good job, Lake Weir!
On Saturday, I found myself at the 37th annual Founder’s Day celebration at City Hall, celebrating the 127th year of incorporation of the City of Belleview. There were many great vendors at this event, including Chik Filet, Mojo’s Grill, and various arts and crafts booths. The children’s beauty pageants were delightful, and fun was had by all. If you were unable to attend this year, please mark your calendars for next year, because this is something you don’t want to miss!
I ended my weekend at the 25th Anniversary Ball of the Silver Springs Shores Elks Club. With delicious food and great entertainment, Commissioner Ernst and myself, as well as our spouses, had a wonderful time. The Elks Club is truly a great supporter of our community and our children and gives so much back the people of our area. We appreciate all that they do!
We have several important dates coming up in the City. Tuesday, May 15, at 6:00 PM is the next City Commission meeting. Our Development Services Director will be presenting a power point on Community Redevelopment Areas. A CRA is one option that a city has to help attract and boost economic development and revitalization. Please join us to learn more.
At 10:00 AM on May 18, the County will be holding the Annual Fallen Officer’s Memorial at the McPherson Complex on 25th Avenue. This is a moving ceremony to honor all of our fallen police officers, both locally and nationally. Please come out to show your support for all members of law enforcement.
Finally, on Friday, June 8, at 6:00 PM, I will be holding, with help from the Belleview Police Department, a free cookout for all citizens at Lake Lillian. We will be serving hamburgers and hotdogs with all of the fixings. This is a great opportunity for you to speak to both myself and the police department about any concerns or requests that you may have, and is also a wonderful opportunity to mix and mingle with your neighbors! I truly hope to see all of you there! Please RSVP to 352-233-7214 by leaving a message with your name and the number of people in your party.
Sincerely,
Christine Dobkowski
